Routledge Research on Museums and Heritage in Asia

This new and thought-provoking series provides researchers, students, policymakers and practitioners with the latest thinking on museums and heritage across Asia and the Asian diaspora. The mission of this series is:

(1) To nurture and promote cutting-edge research that captures and critically examines the most recent developments in museum and heritage discourse and practice in Asian countries and the Asian diaspora, and that analyses existing practices in this area from new theoretical perspectives;

(2) To provide a platform for voices from Asia and from those working on Asian heritage and museum practice beyond the region. It will be suitable for an international audience and will promote dialogue amongst Asian and international scholars;

(3) To promote theoretically informed, interdisciplinary, and critical research on heritage in Asia. Books in the series will also take a transnational perspective, reaching beyond the framework of the nation-state to attend to border crossing, transnational migration and diaspora issues as they affect museum and heritage practice.

The series is interested in, but not limited to, issues of postcolonialism, decolonisation, mobility, cultural encounters, Asian global cities, and digital technology that underpins the rapid transformation of Asia today and shapes its future. The series will fill a gap in existing museum and heritage scholarship by focusing on voices and perspectives beyond the Western experience. With contributions from international experts, titles in the series will be relevant to those working across a wide range of disciplines, including museum and heritage studies, sociology and politics, anthropology, urban studies, Asian studies, tourism studies and migration studies.
