We are at a point in history where the global population is inceasingly interested in medicinal plants, natural products and herbalism. This interest has accelerated with COVID-19 and long COVID symptoms. Rediscovery of the connection between plants and health is responsible for a new generation of botanical therapeutics that include plant-derived pharmaceuticals, multicomponent botanical drugs, dietary supplements, functional foods and plant-produced recombinant proteins. Many of these products can complement conventional pharmaceuticals in the treatment, prevention and diagnosis of diseases.
